REMOVAL OF FLUORIDE BY USING Citrus limon PEEL POWDER AS NATURAL COAGULANT

The performance of coagulation with C. limon peel powder for removal of fluoride was investigated. Several working parameters such as pollutant concentration, pH, coagulant dosage, and contact time were studied in an attempt to achieve a higher removal capacity. Solutions of varying fluoride concentrations (1 – 10 mg/L) were prepared. The pH of the initial solution was also varied to study their effects on the fluoride removal efficiency. Results obtained with synthetic wastewater revealed that the most effective removal capacities of the studied ion could be achieved when the pH was kept at 7. The process was successfully applied to the treatment of electroplating wastewater where an effective reduction of fluoride concentration under legal limits was obtained just after 40-60 min. The results of this study showed that the removal efficiency of fluoride with C. limon peel powder given a economical solution to remove fluoride from aqueous solution.
