STUDIES ON BIOEFFICACY OF LINDANE AND ENDOSULFAN ON PODBORER OF PIGEON PEA

ABSTRACT

 

In field trials on pigeon pea conducted for two consecutive years. Effectiveness of lindane 20% EC and endosulfan 35% EC was studied against pod borer on pigeon pea causing serious damage to the developing pods. Each pesticide was evaluated at the spray concentrations of 0.05, 0.07 and 0.1% through two sprays given at an interval of 15 days by initiating the first spray at 50% flowering of pigeon pea crop. Significant reduction in pod damage as compare to 23.65% in untreated crop was noticed in all spray treatments. Although higher concentration of 0.1% showed superiority in both pesticides lower concentration of 0.05 and 0.07% were considered to be appropriate. Among two pesticides endosulfan provided better control of H. armigera. The pod damage ranged from 9.75 to 10.529 and 13.07 to 14.86 % in respect of spray treatment of endosulfan and lindane, respectively.
