STUDY ON PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND HEAVY METAL CONTENTS IN CRUDE OIL CONT- AMINATED SOIL OF RUDRASAGAR OIL FIELD, ASSAM, INDIA

Crude oil pollution is one of the most prevalent environment problems. The present study was assessed to determine the possible effects of crude oil spillage on certain physiochemical properties of the soil. Soil samples were collected during non-monsoon period (NovemberFebruary, 2016) at two different depths (0-15cm and 15- 30cm) and to a distance of about 100 meters from the spillage area. The study reveals analysis of soil characteristics and heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) content of the soil. Principal component analysis (PCA) of the soil samples was carried on the physicochemical and the heavy metal content in the soil. PCA analysis showed that the variance is contributed by three principal components .The positive values of the analysis indicate high input of heavy metals from crude oil.
