ASSESSMENT OF FLUORIDE CONTENT IN GROUND WATER SOURCES OF KAMALPUR BLOCK UNDER KAMRUP RURAL DISTRICT OF ASSAM, INDIA

ABSTRACT

 

Ground water which is the major drinking water source in rural areas may contain high fluoride content causing public health problems. The objective of the study is to determine the fluoride concentration of the water samples collected from different ground water sources of Kamalpur Block of Assam, India. Twelve samples were collected in the month of February, 2015 and estimated for fluoride content along with some other physico-chemical parameters. Fluoride content was estimated by using SPADNS method in spectrophotometer at 570nm wavelength. Concentration of fluoride is varied from 1.04ppm to 2.15ppm. Out of the twelve samples, eight samples have higher fluoride content than WHO permissible limit i.e. 1.5 ppm. Fluoride shows significant positive correlation with pH, EC, TA, TDS and Na+.
