BIOSORPTION STUDY ON MORINGA OLEIFERA SEEDS AS NATURAL ADSORBENT FOR REMOVAL OF CHROMIUM (VI) FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION

ABSTRACT

 

Biosorption of Cr (VI) by Moringa oleifera using a batch system was studied. Batch adsorption experiments were performed as a function of pH, biosorbent dose, contact time, volume of the solution and initial metal concentration. The present study revealed optimum conditions for the removal process which included dose of biosorbent (4g), initial metal concentration (25 mg/l), initial pH (2.5) contact time (40 min) and volume of the solution (200ml). The maximum efficiency of Cr (VI) removal by the powdered seed of the plant Moringa oleifera was 88.7%) respectively. The adsorption isotherms obtained fitted well into the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms.
