Titanium dioxide exists in three phases namely anatase, rutile and brookite. Out of which anatase and rutile phases are having tetragonal structure whereas Brookite phase is having an orthorhombic crystal structure. The anatase phase of TiO2 is widely used as a photo-catalyst or as a self-cleaning agent, for air purification and to generate nano green house. The aim of this paper is to present the synthesis and study of structure of anatase and rutile phase of TiO2. The TiO2 powder was prepared using the hydrolysis and peptization method. We have observed that TiO2 powder calcinated at 100°C consist of anatase fine crystalline phase with a particle size of about 17 nm and same powder when calcinated at 800°C consist of mixture of anatase and rutile phase. The TiO2 nano-particles thus generated have uniform size and morphology. The material thus obtained was studied by taking its X-ray diffraction patterns and interpreting the peaks obtained in the result. The transformation of phase occurred from anatase to rutile at the calcination temperature of 800°C. Structural analysis of TiO2 powder was been carried out by XRD. Surface morphology was studied by SEM and element concentration of calcinated powder was analysed by EDAX. Anatase and rutile phases of TiO2 were confirmed by XRD data and uniform surface morphology observed by SEM micrograph.
